Piano exam: not great. There was some good stuff in there. There was also some very bad stuff in there as nerves got the better of me, and I really messed up my scales. A...urals were okay, I guess, but after scraping though Grade 8 aurals these were sooo easy.

Verdict: It could go either way depending on the examiner. I highly doubt I got more than a pass, but I don't know how they mark it.

With regard to the title... I am continuing my string of illness coinciding with ANY practical music exam. Seriously. Wednesday morning I randomly started coughing during breakfast. Did the exam, went home to tell my mum about it, went to school (stinging my throat all the while as I cycled in the cold) and had choir, all the time thinking I had a tickle.

Next morning I'm feeling so lousy I can't go to school. I can't settle a temperature, my cough is worse, my voice is almost non-existent and I'm headachey. I spend most of the day sleeping/dozing, before waking up properly around 4, playing some games and watching Toy Story 3 with my family. Try to go to sleep that night... and I couldn't. Because I slept during the day. I may have had an hour's sleep. So Friday I go through more than 30 hours without really sleeping... Feeling marginally better, but still lousy. I do get some sleep that night.

This morning I woke up just feeling SO sh*te. My cough has turned into a hack, my nose is runny, I still can't find the right temperature, my voice is dead and... yeah. I feel awful.

Prayers are greatly appreciated, guys. I have my concert fortnight ahead of me, and I already had to cancel going to a workshop someone was virtually relying on me to go to. I need to get better.

The only advantage is that my family are doting on me a bit, and I get to snuggle up on the sofa and watch anime. As much as I love the sound of that, I'd rather be well and doing school work.

Also, it's snowing before Christmas in the south of England.

What. The. Heck?

Oh, and has anybody else ever used SharkRobot.com? I've had a few problems with the site, but it is being sorted out via private email.

Love and prayers,

If you comment on this journal, I'll go through your gallery and pick out my favourite three pieces with reasons, with the proviso that you'll try to do a similar feature sometime - it's a good way to make people look through each others' galleries, and spreading the love and art is always nice. :D I'm putting down 10 slots, but if I'm getting lots of feedback I'll add more. I will go through your galleries... in the next few weeks.

Slots 1 and 2 go to !chefhalfnote and ~DragonDreamer93 because they already did this and I commented on their journals.

A lovely face executed nicely in charcoal pencil.
Steel FlowersRan Fan fiddled with the hair ornament that she'd inherited from her grandmother. She liked it; it was pretty, but...

She pulled her hair from the practical knot at the back of her head and began to comb it out.

The high laughter of a woman broke through the quiet of the end of the day.

She sometimes wished -she wouldn't admit it, but she did- that she could just be a girl. She'd grown up among men, wearing pants, not caring about her appearance, preferring anonymity to attention. She had never had the chance to wear dresses or makeup, or worry about her hair. She'd never gossiped and giggled with friends about boys, but she'd been gossipe

Because LingFan fluff is fluffy and nice. It's well-written too. :D

An interesting style, nicely done.

I know~ And thanks - I think I may have hit the turning point, as my temperature seems to be stabilising and the glands seem to be reducing in size a bit. My mum says my face looks less like a balloon. :/ Still, we're fairly sure that I won't be at school for most of this week.

I've never had to cancel an exam... but I've sung through sore throats in both Grade 6 and 8 (I skipped 7). My other instruments don't rely on my throat. And last time I got about a pass was a Distinction in Grade 5 Theory and a Merit Grade 5 Violin. So far, all the things above that have been Passes. :( Right now I think I'm not changing that streak for piano, but my Grade 7 Viola next term might go better.

Ah, I expect it's even worse in Wales. Ours was just a dusting, but still... snow before Christmas is virtually unheard of around here... Plus, unless it snows much in the next fortnight (which I actually don't want) then I'm not getting off school. I might even miss school being cancelled because I'm still ill! :noes:

Aww, thank you. I shan't even dare to send an e-hug your way as I don't want to spread this virus, but it's appreciated.

Holy smoke, a real white Christmas? Wow. I don't think we've had one here while I've been alive, though I may be wrong.

Ah, yeah. Primarily I'm a musician, then artist. I'm okay at the sciences, but I hate essay subjects like the humanities. I play violin, viola, piano and I sing. I've applied to do Music at uni next September, and I'm waiting to hear back from my choices. And indeed, it's still a pass. Some places it does matter (if I wanted to go to a conservatoire, I'd almost certainly need at least one Grade 8 Distinction) but not for regular Music where I'm applying. They want Grade 8, and otherwise don't mind. Oh, and Grade 6 piano.

Ahhh, well you should should have no problems then :D To be honest sometimes I wish I'd carried on, but I was never really that spectacular at it and when I started high school, I just couldn't bring myself to go throught the extra exams. The only thing I could ever perform was Drama ^^

And at this rate you might just get a white christmas this year ^^

Yeah, I should be fine. And I do understand about the exams. To be honest, I hate performing solo, but I'm slowly overcoming it. I can do it. I just don't like it. Although, last solo singing concert I had a minor panic attack before I started, which screwed up my breathing, but... hey. I'll work on it. BUT I hate Drama even more.

Yes... We might... *isn't looking forward to all the disruption and freezing weather*

Yeah I don't really know what if was about drama ¬_¬ I can't even give a powerpoint presentation without my voice going shakey, but put me on a stage and I thrive ^^ and usually, I end up keeping the performance together, because not only have I learnt my lines, I've learnt most of the others, so I used to make up lines to prompt them >_< maybe it's cos I get rid of the nervous energy by being able to move :?

And come ons ^^ Snow on Christmas? do you even go out on Christmas day??
