Description

Ah... my entry for the London MCM Expo Artists' Alley competition, run by Sweatdrop Studios, with the pre-made category having the theme, fantasy.

Critique appreciated! And really, if your internet can handle it, try looking at the full-size version.

Kira damnit, I'm actually pleased with this. I think it must have taken 30+ hours (I honestly don't know) but... but... it's just the first piece I feel I've done for a long time that's actually good. It has perspective. Most of the figures are about believable. The faces came out SO well on Shun and Pearl - you can just tell that Shun is not a happy pretty boy, and Pearl's loving being up there. And Krystal looks so badass in that little panel down the bottom. And I spent so long on the cel-shading (which I like) and the background (which I also like).

AND I DID THE WHOLE THING WITH MY TABLET, ONCE I SCANNED IT IN. MY QUEEN'S LEADERSHIP INSPIRED ME. :salute:

Story-wise, this is less "Take to the sky" and more "Operation take-down-the-usurper-leader-so-the-real-princess-can-come-back". This is part of Aspen in my world, and is about 100 miles from Weichester - that is a city you can see in the background, complete with port, slums and a castle, the castle being the royal holiday home.

Also, you see those tiny little dots on the pegasus' hooves? They're little emeralds. In my world, magic flows through gemstones, and some animals have adapted to utilise them. One example is the larger variety of pegasi (seen above) because there's no way those wings could carry them. There are true flying horses which don't use magic, but they're about the size of Shetland ponies. :D

I can now upload this because the results have been announced. [link] You need an account there to see the winning entries, but even if you don't sign up I can tell you that they're good.

And, yet again, I didn't manage to make the commended list for the 16+ Pre-made category. *sigh* One day...

With regard to Oh So Controversial, the results were announced today, and my friend won the £350 prize - she was really stunned and surprised, and I'm really pleased for her, it was a lovely piece that she created. I was commended by all of the judges though, which is nice, even if I think I gave the impression in my accompanying text that "Attractivism" is a real art movement... ^^; I made up the word! Having now looked at the painting again, I've realised how much I hate Pearl's skin-tone... but her design semi-transferred over to this image. :)

amazing work here, very detailed and bautiful,

tho try adding some darker shades on the horse and people
also try reshaping the wing so the gree feathers are down and the yellow part of the wings to be up
