Aw, thanks! I have been doing a bit of drawing since uni, but mostly just little doodles and sketches on my tablet to help me adjust to it. They all go up on the Tumblr page for my story. I should have a few paintings to go up in a couple of months; I've been asked to paint Dorian Gray for a student-composed musical at the end of February, so I need to get on with that.
wow, you are really working hard. paintings and whatnot. it doesn't really matter how much time you have to draw because, well, every doodle counts...and the most amazing pieces of art sometimes come from the large amount of stress one has in his/her daily life because frankly my dear, with pencil and paper, you can be yourself, on this small piece of paper...you can do anything you want and no one can stop you from doing so.
Well, I hardly did any painting work until about two weeks ago. There were a couple of paintings over the summer. Most of my time's been taken up with university and my novel. And I'm not good at whipping out a quick doodle. But there's been a bit of progress.
He's so beautiful!! Thank you so much!! I think next to Rue and Em, my Lord of Dreams is my favorite of all my characters so this makes me happy on so many levels XD He's totally going up on my wall so I can stare at his pretty while I'm sitting here :3
And I also have to say I really love the way you get such beautiful color gradients in your watercolour work, you just amaze me! I really love the detail, pose, color, the really great glitter pen details you added and the way it shines when it catches the light just so. I just love this so much!!
Well, that makes a full set, doesn't it? Even if Em was only really a headshot.
The gradients is all about how much water you slosh on with the brush and trying not to let anything dry out at an edge. But even then, you learn how to recover things. I think this is the first time I've gotten hair done right with all the detail! I'm trying out using Biro rather than pen, and while it goes against the grain to use a black pen the finesse it gives me is nice. If only it wouldn't keep blotching! The pose was reference as I told you (it was the only thing I found that inspired me - I didn't want to do a carbon copy of your original pic, and I couldn't find a nice sitting pose, and then I found this). Colour is my strongest point, I think, though it was a challenge to get all those colours from my very limited set. (And really - it wouldn't be me if it didn't have some sparkle in it. You know I'm a magpie.)
But yeah, I'm really really glad you like it. It's one of the best things I've done for a while (I know that's not saying much given how little I've made recently) so I'm happy.
(Yes I am still up and awake. I'm still working on the composition's associated work. *sobs*)
